If Sailor Moon was part of your childhood, Tokyo now has something considerably more interesting than another character shop.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon -Shining Theater Shinagawa Tokyo- is a permanent-style theatrical experience inside Shinagawa Prince Hotel, combining an original Sailor Moon story with live performances, music, costumes, character greetings, themed drinks and merchandise.
It opened in April 2026 and is currently running multiple performances each week.
What makes it particularly interesting for overseas visitors is that you don’t need to understand Japanese to follow everything. English subtitles are available during the main performance, and tickets can be purchased internationally through the official booking system.
Tickets aren’t cheap, though.
The least expensive adult seats cost ¥8,000, while Premium Seats cost ¥18,000.
So is it something every Tokyo visitor should add to their itinerary?
No.
But if you’re a Sailor Moon fan, this is one of the easiest Tokyo experiences to justify because it offers something you can’t simply recreate by visiting an anime store.
Here’s what happens inside, which seats we’d choose and whether the more expensive tickets are actually worth paying for.
Quick Answer
Sailor Moon Shining Theater is worth considering if you’re already a Sailor Moon fan.
The show is performed at Club eX inside Shinagawa Prince Hotel, around five minutes on foot from Shinagawa Station.
The main performance lasts approximately 60 minutes with no intermission and combines a theatrical story with a live music section.
Current adult ticket prices are:
Class A: ¥8,000
Class S: ¥13,000
Premium: ¥18,000
BOX Room: ¥32,000 per box
Children aged 4–12 can use Class A seats for ¥4,000. Children aged three and under are generally not admitted to regular performances.
For most international visitors, we’d look closely at Class A or Class S rather than automatically buying Premium.
The main show is the same. What changes as you move up the ticket categories is your seating and the collection of extras around the performance.
What Is Sailor Moon Shining Theater?
This isn’t a touring musical that happens to be stopping in Tokyo for a weekend.
Shining Theater was created as a dedicated Sailor Moon entertainment experience at Club eX in Shinagawa Prince Hotel.
It opened on April 4, 2026 and follows the earlier Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon -SHINING MOON TOKYO- experience that operated in Azabu-Juban in 2019.
The new version has an original story written specifically for the theatre.
Usagi and her friends visit a new theme park in Tokyo where AI technology can apparently create a perfect world.
Things don’t stay perfect for long.
A new enemy, Queen Valusia, uses the technology to steal Usagi’s heart and begins affecting the other Guardians. Chibiusa and the Outer Guardians eventually become involved as the battle develops around the question of whether a perfect artificial world can replace genuine human love.
You don’t need to know every Sailor Moon storyline before sitting down.
But someone who already knows Usagi, Tuxedo Mask and the Sailor Guardians is obviously going to get far more from it.
Is the Show in English?
The performance itself is in Japanese.
However, English subtitles are available for the main show.
That’s a major reason we’d recommend this more confidently to overseas Sailor Moon fans than a Japanese-only stage production.
You’re not paying ¥8,000–¥18,000 to sit through an hour trying to work out what everyone is saying from context.
The songs and live-performance element naturally require less translation, while the subtitles make the story much easier to follow.
If you’re interested in Japanese pop culture but worried that the language barrier will make theatre difficult, this is one of the easier options in Tokyo.
Where Is Sailor Moon Shining Theater?
The theatre is inside:
Club eX
Shinagawa Prince Hotel Annex Tower, 3F
4-10-30 Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo
The nearest major station is Shinagawa Station.
From the Takanawa Exit, it’s around a five-minute walk.
This is an excellent location for tourists.
Shinagawa is served by the JR Yamanote Line, Keihin-Tohoku Line, Tokaido Line, Yokosuka Line, Keikyu Line and the Tokaido Shinkansen.
That makes Shining Theater much easier to work into an itinerary than an attraction sitting on the outskirts of Tokyo.
You don’t need to sacrifice half a day simply getting there and back.

How Long Is Sailor Moon Shining Theater?
The main performance lasts approximately 60 minutes.
There is no intermission.
That hour includes both the theatrical performance and live section.
Depending on your ticket, you may also have a cast greeting or send-off afterwards.
The separate Greeting Session is expected to take around 30 minutes.
We’d therefore avoid planning something with a rigid reservation immediately after the show.
Give yourself time to enjoy the post-show experience, browse merchandise and leave without watching the clock.
Sailor Moon Shining Theater Ticket Prices
There are four main seating categories.
And unlike many attractions where paying more simply moves you a few rows forward, the ticket categories here include different benefits.
Class A — ¥8,000
This is the cheapest standard adult ticket.
Children aged 4–12 pay ¥4,000 for Class A.
Class A is on the second floor and includes the performance plus the cast send-off.
For someone who wants to see the show but isn’t interested in paying thousands of yen extra for collectibles, drinks or a cast photo, this is the value option.
Class S — ¥13,000
Class S moves you onto the first floor and includes more of the Shining Theater experience.
Current benefits include the performance, high-five send-off, a Crystal Bottle Drink with drink merchandise and original sweets.
That’s a ¥5,000 jump from Class A.
Whether it’s worth it comes down to how much you value being closer to the performance and receiving the extras.
For many adult Sailor Moon fans, this may be the best balance.
Premium Seat — ¥18,000
Premium and Premium Sofa seats cost ¥18,000.
This is where you’re buying the full fan experience rather than simply a theatre seat.
Premium benefits currently include the high-five send-off, Crystal Bottle Drink and merchandise, original sweets, Premium Seat original goods and a commemorative photograph with the cast.
That’s the important difference.
If meeting the cast and getting the photograph would be one of the highlights of your Tokyo trip, Premium starts to make sense.
If you mainly want to watch the performance, we’d save the ¥5,000–¥10,000 difference.
BOX Room — ¥32,000
BOX Rooms are on the second floor and cost ¥32,000 per box.
This option becomes more interesting for families or groups rather than solo visitors.
It provides a more private space and includes the performance and cast send-off.
Before booking, check the current capacity and conditions for your particular performance rather than assuming the box works like four individual Class A tickets.
Which Sailor Moon Ticket Would We Buy?
For most visitors, we’d narrow it down to two choices.
Class A if you’re price-conscious.
You still see the complete show and get the post-performance send-off. At ¥8,000, it’s already a significant Tokyo activity.
Class S if you’re a genuine fan and want more of the experience.
The jump to ¥13,000 gets you closer to the stage and adds themed items and the high-five send-off without taking you all the way to ¥18,000.
Premium is different.
We’d buy Premium because we specifically wanted the cast photograph and Premium benefits, not simply because “Premium must be better.”
That’s a much better way to decide.
What Do You Get With the Crystal Bottle Drink?
The Crystal Bottle Drinks are themed around the Sailor Guardians and Tuxedo Mask.
They aren’t just ordinary drinks handed over in a plastic cup.
The drink and associated merchandise form part of the higher ticket experience, and the designs/flavours are connected to individual characters.
There have also been limited birthday-period drinks themed around the Sailor Starlights.
If your ticket includes a Crystal Bottle Drink, you may be able to select your preferred option in advance depending on where you purchased the ticket.
Don’t assume every third-party ticket platform handles drink selection in exactly the same way.
If choosing a particular character matters to you, check the conditions when booking.
Can You Drink During the Show?
Yes.
The theatre has been designed differently from a conventional stage auditorium.
Many seats have dedicated tables featuring artwork from the original Sailor Moon manga, including new illustrations by Naoko Takeuchi displayed within the theatre.
Drinks can be enjoyed during the performance.
There are also additional themed drinks available, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.
It gives the venue a more intimate entertainment feel than simply sitting in rows inside a large musical theatre.
Can You Take Photos During Sailor Moon Shining Theater?
Not during the entire performance.
This distinction matters.
The main experience has a Performance Part and Live Part.
Photography and video using smartphones are permitted during the designated Live Part.
The theatrical portion isn’t simply open filming.
That means you can leave with your own photographs and video from part of the experience without spending the entire show watching it through somebody else’s phone.
Follow the staff instructions on the day because recording rules can change for particular performances or sections.
What Songs Are Performed?
The second performance phase expanded the live section to four songs.
Current Phase 2 songs include Moonlight Densetsu, one of the songs most international Sailor Moon fans will immediately recognise.
The live section is one of the reasons we’d avoid describing Shining Theater as simply a play.
You get the story first, then the atmosphere changes into something closer to a Sailor Moon live performance.
For longtime fans, hearing Moonlight Densetsu performed live in Tokyo is likely to be one of the moments that sticks.
Team Gold Moon vs Team Silver Moon
You may notice two different cast names while looking through the schedule:
Team Gold Moon
Team Silver Moon
The principal roles use a double-cast system, so the performing cast varies according to the date.
That doesn’t mean one team is the “main” version and the other is inferior.
Both perform the Shining Theater production.
If there’s a particular performer you want to see, check the cast calendar before buying your ticket rather than choosing purely by the most convenient time.
The cast involved in the send-off can also rotate.
Current 2026 Performance Times
During the current Phase 2, which runs from August 3 through November 30, standard performances are generally scheduled at:
Monday–Friday: 2:30pm and 7:30pm
Saturday–Sunday: 11:30am, 3:30pm and 7:30pm
Not every date necessarily follows a simple repeating schedule, and there are special performances, cast changes and event days.
Always check your actual date before building the rest of your Tokyo itinerary around a show.
What Happens After November 2026?
This is particularly important if you’re planning a winter trip.
Shining Theater isn’t scheduled to finish on November 30.
Phase 3 is planned for December 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027.
The organisers have also announced a special December 3 Phase 3 performance connected with the Sailor Moon 35th-anniversary project, including new material in the live section.
Full Phase 3 details are being released separately, so anyone travelling from December onwards should check the latest schedule rather than relying on Phase 2 times in this guide.
We’ll update this page as those details are confirmed.
How to Buy Tickets from Outside Japan
This is another area where Shining Theater is unusually tourist-friendly.
The official online ticket system supports purchases from both Japan and overseas, and lets buyers select seats.
Tickets are also distributed through international travel platforms.
Our preference would be to check the official ticket system first because it gives you the clearest view of the actual seat and current benefits.
Third-party platforms can still be useful, particularly if you already use one while planning Japan, but compare exactly what’s included rather than assuming every listing is identical.
Tickets are sold first come, first served and can disappear once the allocated seats for a performance have been sold.
If Sailor Moon is a major reason for your trip, don’t leave it until you arrive in Tokyo.
Can You Buy Same-Day Tickets?
Potentially, yes.
The official system allows tickets to be purchased even after a performance has started when seats remain available.
But that’s a fallback, not the strategy we’d recommend for an overseas fan.
If you’re travelling halfway around the world and specifically want to see Shining Theater, saving the booking until that afternoon doesn’t make much sense.
Book ahead and build the rest of that day around Shinagawa.
Is Sailor Moon Shining Theater Good for Children?
Children aged four and above can attend regular performances.
Class A tickets for children aged 4–12 cost ¥4,000, which makes the second-floor seating considerably more affordable for families.
Children aged three and under are generally not permitted at regular performances.
There have been dedicated Kids’ Theatre Day performances where the format is adjusted to be more family-friendly, including relaxed rules around children making noise.
Those are special events rather than the standard performance, so don’t assume every show operates that way.
For families building a larger Japan trip:

Do You Need to Be a Huge Sailor Moon Fan?
No.
But it helps considerably.
Someone familiar with the characters but not deeply invested in the franchise can still follow the story, enjoy the costumes and live music and appreciate the production.
Someone who has never watched Sailor Moon is a different case.
At ¥8,000 minimum, we wouldn’t recommend this simply because you’re looking for “something Japanese to do tonight.”
Tokyo has far too many alternatives.
The value here comes from having some connection with the characters and world.
Is It Worth ¥8,000?
For a Sailor Moon fan, we think Class A is relatively easy to justify.
You’re getting an original hour-long production rather than a short character appearance, English subtitles, a live music section and a cast send-off.
Compare that with what tourists can spend on observation decks, themed experiences and other Tokyo attractions, and ¥8,000 isn’t absurd.
The harder question is whether you should spend ¥13,000 or ¥18,000.
That’s where fandom matters.
Someone who wants a photograph with the cast may remember the Premium experience long after they’ve forgotten the additional ¥5,000.
Someone who just wants to see the show gains far less from paying for that upgrade.
Is the ¥18,000 Premium Seat Worth It?
We wouldn’t call it the “best” ticket automatically.
It’s the ticket for the person who looks at the list of benefits and immediately thinks:
I want that photo.
The commemorative cast photo, Premium merchandise, drink, sweets and closer seating turn the night into a fan experience rather than just attending a performance.
For a couple casually interested in Sailor Moon, two Premium tickets cost ¥36,000.
That’s a lot of money for one Tokyo activity.
For a lifelong fan visiting Japan for the first time, it may be exactly the kind of thing the trip budget is for.
Neither answer is wrong.
Is Class S the Sweet Spot?
For many adults, yes.
At ¥13,000, it’s still expensive, but you get first-floor seating and more of the themed experience than Class A without paying the full Premium price.
If we were advising someone who said:
“I love Sailor Moon, but I don’t need a cast photograph”
Class S is where we’d look first.
If they said:
“I just want to see the show”
Class A.
If they said:
“I’ve waited my entire life for this”
Premium.
That’s probably the simplest way to choose.
What Time Should You Arrive?
The theatre lobby and seating are scheduled to open one hour before the performance.
We wouldn’t necessarily arrive the full hour early unless you want plenty of time around the venue, but don’t cut it close either.
There’s now another reason to leave some margin.
From September 26, the theatre introduced bag inspections at the entrance.
Those checks can add time before ticket verification.
Large luggage such as suitcases isn’t allowed inside the venue, and re-entry isn’t permitted.
If you’re coming directly from the Shinkansen or airport, store your large bags before heading into Club eX.
Can You Visit on the Day You Arrive in Tokyo?
Potentially, and Shinagawa is one of the better places to do it.
The Keikyu Line connects Shinagawa with Haneda Airport, and Shinagawa is also a Tokaido Shinkansen stop.
That makes a 7:30pm performance tempting on an arrival day.
But we’d only do this if your arrival gives you a comfortable buffer.
Don’t buy an expensive non-flexible theatre ticket two hours after an international flight is supposed to land and assume immigration, baggage and transportation will all run perfectly.
The show is too expensive to gamble on a tight connection.
How to Fit Shining Theater Into a Tokyo Itinerary
The 7:30pm performance is particularly useful.
Unlike an attraction that consumes the middle of a sightseeing day, Shining Theater can become your evening activity after spending the day elsewhere in Tokyo.
You could explore central Tokyo, return to your hotel, then travel to Shinagawa for the show.
The afternoon performance works differently. Because the main show itself is only about an hour, you still have plenty of the day available afterwards.
If you’re working with a short first-time trip:
👉 Tokyo 3 Day Itinerary: First-Time Visitor Guide
The important thing is not to build an entire day around a 60-minute show unless Sailor Moon is genuinely one of the major reasons you’re visiting Japan.
Shining Theater vs a Tokyo Anime Store
This sounds like a strange comparison, but it’s useful when deciding whether to spend the money.
You can find Sailor Moon merchandise in Tokyo without buying an ¥8,000 theatre ticket.
If what you actually want is shopping, do that.
Shining Theater becomes worthwhile because you’re getting something you can’t put in a shopping bag: original performances, actors portraying the Guardians, live songs and a dedicated Sailor Moon environment.
That’s why we wouldn’t judge the experience based on how much merchandise is included.
The performance is the reason to go.
Shining Theater vs Tokyo Disneyland
These are completely different uses of your time and budget.
Tokyo Disneyland can occupy an entire day and offers dozens of attractions.
Shining Theater takes around an hour for the main show and can fit into an evening.
A Sailor Moon fan shouldn’t choose Disney simply because it’s the “bigger” attraction. Likewise, someone with little interest in Sailor Moon shouldn’t replace a Disney day with this just because it’s newer.

Is It Worth Visiting If You Only Have Three Days in Tokyo?
This is where Shining Theater has an advantage over PokéPark KANTO and the major theme parks.
It doesn’t need half a day.
A 7:30pm performance can sit at the end of a normal sightseeing day without forcing you to remove Shibuya, Shinjuku, Asakusa or another major district.
For a Sailor Moon fan with only three days in Tokyo, I’d still consider it.
For a non-fan, use the evening elsewhere.

Where Should You Stay?
You don’t need to stay in Shinagawa just because you’re attending the show.
The station’s excellent rail connections make the theatre accessible from many of Tokyo’s main accommodation areas.
Shinjuku and Shibuya are still stronger choices for many first-time visitors who want restaurants, nightlife and major sightseeing areas outside their door.
Tokyo Station can also work well for travellers using the Shinkansen.
Choose your hotel around the entire trip rather than one evening performance.

A Few Things We’d Know Before Booking
Don’t automatically buy Premium because it sounds like the “proper” way to experience the show. Look at what the extra ¥10,000 over Class A actually buys and decide whether those benefits matter to you.
Check whether Team Gold Moon or Team Silver Moon is performing if you care about a particular cast member.
Allow extra arrival time because bag inspections are now in place.
Don’t bring a suitcase.
Remember that photography is allowed during the designated Live Part, not simply throughout the entire production.
And if you’re travelling from December 2026 onwards, check the Phase 3 schedule before relying on the Phase 2 performance times in this guide.

The performers speak Japanese, but English subtitles are available during the main show.
How much are tickets?
Current adult prices are ¥8,000 for Class A, ¥13,000 for Class S and ¥18,000 for Premium/Premium Sofa. BOX Rooms cost ¥32,000.
How long is the show?
The main performance lasts approximately 60 minutes without an intermission. A Greeting Session, where applicable, takes roughly another 30 minutes.

Can tourists buy tickets from overseas?
Yes. The official online ticket system supports overseas purchases and seat selection.
Can you take photos?
Photography and smartphone video are allowed during the designated Live Part, rather than throughout the entire theatrical performance.
Can children attend?
Children aged four and above can attend regular performances with an appropriate ticket. Children aged three and under generally cannot attend regular performances.
Which ticket is best?
Class A is the value choice. Class S is our pick for fans wanting a more complete experience without paying Premium prices. Premium makes most sense if the cast photo and exclusive benefits are important to you.

Crystal Bottle Drinks and associated merchandise are currently included with Premium and Class S tickets purchased through eligible ticket channels. Class A doesn’t include the same drink package.
Can I bring luggage?
Large luggage such as suitcases isn’t permitted inside the theatre. Bag inspections are currently conducted before entry.
Does Sailor Moon Shining Theater finish in November 2026?
No. Phase 3 is scheduled from December 2026 through March 2027, with further details being announced separately.
Is Sailor Moon Shining Theater worth it?
For a Sailor Moon fan, we’d say yes—particularly at Class A or Class S pricing. For someone with no attachment to Sailor Moon, there are better ways to spend ¥8,000+ in Tokyo.
Final Thoughts
Sailor Moon Shining Theater works because it doesn’t ask fans to come all the way to Tokyo simply to look at costumes behind glass.
You actually get a Sailor Moon story.
You see the Guardians performed on stage, hear the music live, follow the story with English subtitles and, depending on your ticket, finish with anything from a cast send-off to a photograph with the performers.
That’s a much stronger reason to spend money than another themed shop.
The ¥18,000 Premium ticket isn’t necessary for everyone, and we wouldn’t pretend it is. Class A gives you the core experience for ¥8,000. Class S is probably the better compromise for someone who wants the night to feel a little more special.
Premium is for the fan who knows they’ll regret leaving Tokyo without the photograph.
And that’s really how we’d decide whether to go at all.
If Sailor Moon means nothing to you, skip it.
If hearing Moonlight Densetsu performed live by the Sailor Guardians in Tokyo already sounds exciting, you probably don’t need much more convincing.
