Hiroshima Airport Capsule Hotel 2026: Where to Sleep on a Layover

If you have an early flight, late arrival or overnight stop at Hiroshima Airport, you may be looking for a capsule hotel or sleeping pod inside the terminal.

The important thing to know is:

Hiroshima Airport does not currently have a capsule hotel inside the terminal.

And unlike some larger Japanese airports, Hiroshima Airport isn’t open throughout the night.

The passenger terminal currently operates from approximately:

6:00am to 10:30pm.

That means sleeping on an airport bench overnight isn’t a realistic plan.

Fortunately, there’s a proper airport hotel only around five minutes’ walk from the terminal, while travellers with more time can stay in Hiroshima City.

This guide explains where to sleep near Hiroshima Airport, what to do during a long layover and whether you should stay at the airport or travel into Hiroshima.

Quick Answer: Can You Sleep at Hiroshima Airport?

Not overnight inside the terminal.

Your main options are:

OptionBest For
Hiroshima Airport HotelEarly flight / late arrival
Hotel AreaOne Hiroshima WingAirport-area accommodation
Hiroshima Station hotelSightseeing + transport
Hiroshima city-centre hotelRestaurants/nightlife
Budget/capsule-style accommodation in HiroshimaSolo budget travellers
Airport terminalShort waits only

For an early flight, Hiroshima Airport Hotel is the easiest choice.

For a longer stay where you want to explore Hiroshima, I’d stay around Hiroshima Station or central Hiroshima.

Does Hiroshima Airport Have a Capsule Hotel?

No.

There is currently no dedicated capsule hotel inside Hiroshima Airport.

You won’t find an airport capsule setup like:

  • Nine Hours Narita
  • First Cabin Haneda
  • First Cabin Kansai
  • TUBE Sq Centrair

If you specifically want the Japanese capsule-hotel experience, you’ll need to travel into Hiroshima or choose other accommodation away from the airport.

Does Hiroshima Airport Have Sleeping Pods?

No dedicated sleeping-pod hotel is currently available inside the passenger terminal.

Don’t arrive late expecting to find:

  • Sleeping capsules
  • Overnight nap rooms
  • Pod hotel
  • Reclining overnight lounge

If you need to stay overnight, arrange accommodation in advance.

Can You Sleep Overnight Inside Hiroshima Airport?

No.

The terminal currently operates approximately:

6:00am–10:30pm.

So you shouldn’t plan to sleep in the terminal overnight.

This is especially important if you have an early departure.

Unlike a 24-hour airport, you can’t simply arrive the previous evening, find a quiet corner and wait until morning.

Hiroshima Airport Hotel

Best overall for an early flight

The most convenient option is:

Hiroshima Airport Hotel

It’s located only around:

5 minutes’ walk from Hiroshima Airport.

That makes it considerably more convenient than travelling into Hiroshima City if you have a very early departure.

The hotel has around 169 rooms and offers:

  • Single rooms
  • Double rooms
  • Twin rooms
  • Suites
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Proper beds
  • Private bathrooms
  • Restaurants

This is a conventional hotel rather than a capsule hotel.

Hiroshima Airport Hotel Check-In and Check-Out

Current standard times are:

Check-in: from 2:00pm

Check-out: by 11:00am

The biggest advantage isn’t the room itself.

It’s the location.

You can wake up, get ready and walk to the airport rather than worrying about an early bus from Hiroshima.

Is There a Shuttle to Hiroshima Airport Hotel?

The hotel is close enough to walk.

A shuttle service may also be available when needed.

For most travellers with normal luggage, the approximately five-minute walk makes this one of Japan’s easier airport-hotel setups.

Is Hiroshima Airport Hotel Better Than a Capsule?

For many travellers, yes.

A capsule hotel would potentially be cheaper for one person, but Hiroshima Airport Hotel gives you:

  • Lockable bedroom
  • Private bathroom
  • Proper bed
  • More luggage space
  • Better sound isolation
  • Easier accommodation for couples
  • Easier accommodation for families

For one night before an important flight, the extra comfort can be worthwhile.

Hotel AreaOne Hiroshima Wing

Another airport-area option is:

Hotel AreaOne Hiroshima Wing

This gives travellers another conventional hotel choice around the wider airport area.

It’s worth comparing if:

  • Hiroshima Airport Hotel is expensive
  • Hiroshima Airport Hotel is sold out
  • You’re travelling by car
  • You want different room or facility options

However, always check the exact airport-transfer arrangements for your travel date.

If your only goal is catching a flight:

stay near the airport.

If you actually want to experience Hiroshima:

stay in the city.

How Far Is Hiroshima Airport From Hiroshima City?

This is important.

Despite its name, Hiroshima Airport is not close to central Hiroshima.

The airport is located near Mihara, well east of Hiroshima City.

Most travellers use an airport limousine bus.

Depending on traffic and your destination, allow roughly:

45–60+ minutes

between the airport and central Hiroshima.

That’s a very different situation from Fukuoka Airport, where the city is only minutes away.

Hiroshima Airport to Hiroshima Station

Airport limousine buses connect Hiroshima Airport with the Hiroshima Station area.

This is the easiest option for many travellers.

Hiroshima Station is particularly convenient because it gives you access to:

  • Shinkansen
  • JR trains
  • Trams
  • Buses
  • Taxis
  • Hotels
  • Restaurants

For a one-night stay in Hiroshima before continuing elsewhere, the station area is an excellent base.

Should You Stay Near Hiroshima Station?

For a short visit, yes.

I’d strongly consider Hiroshima Station if you have:

  • Afternoon arrival
  • Normal-time flight next day
  • Shinkansen connection
  • One night in Hiroshima
  • Limited sightseeing time

You’ll have easy transport and a huge range of hotels.

Hiroshima Station vs Hiroshima City Centre

There’s another decision.

Hiroshima Station

Best for:

  • Airport connections
  • Shinkansen
  • Short stays
  • Early departures
  • Luggage-heavy travellers

Central Hiroshima

Best for:

  • Restaurants
  • Bars
  • Nightlife
  • Peace Memorial Park
  • Atomic Bomb Dome
  • Evening sightseeing

For a pure airport stopover:

Hiroshima Station

For actually experiencing the city:

central Hiroshima

may be better.

Capsule Hotels in Hiroshima

If you’re travelling solo and specifically want capsule-style accommodation, you’ll find more options in Hiroshima City than near the airport.

But don’t automatically assume a capsule will be significantly cheaper.

Hiroshima has plenty of:

  • Business hotels
  • Hostels
  • Guesthouses
  • Budget hotels

Sometimes a basic private hotel room is only moderately more expensive than a capsule.

Compare both before booking.

For a solo traveller, either can work.

For two people, I’d generally choose a private hotel.

What If You Have an Early Flight?

This is where I wouldn’t overcomplicate things.

Stay at:

Hiroshima Airport Hotel

or another airport-area property with suitable transport.

The airport opens at approximately 6:00am.

If you have one of the first flights of the morning, staying in Hiroshima City adds unnecessary transport risk.

You would need to account for:

  • Bus timetable
  • Journey time
  • Traffic
  • Check-in
  • Baggage
  • Security

Staying five minutes from the terminal eliminates most of that.

What If You Arrive Late at Hiroshima Airport?

Again, check transport before assuming you can reach the city.

If you arrive close to the final bus departure, staying near the airport may be easier.

Remember:

the terminal closes at approximately 10:30pm.

You don’t want to miss the final transport into Hiroshima and then discover you can’t remain inside the airport all night.

Where to Sleep During a 3-Hour Hiroshima Layover

Stay at the airport.

Three hours isn’t enough to justify travelling into Hiroshima City.

The city is too far away for that.

Use the time to:

  • Eat
  • Shop
  • Relax
  • Explore the terminal

Then return to your gate.

Where to Sleep During a 5-Hour Layover

I’d still stay near the airport.

A trip into Hiroshima City could consume close to two hours in transport alone once waiting and traffic are included.

That’s not worth the stress for most travellers.

What About an 8-Hour Layover?

Now it becomes more complicated.

You could potentially visit Hiroshima City.

But eight hours doesn’t mean eight hours of sightseeing.

You need to subtract:

  • Immigration if applicable
  • Baggage
  • Waiting for bus
  • 45–60+ minutes into Hiroshima
  • Return bus
  • Security
  • Boarding buffer

You may only have a few hours in the city.

It can work, but plan carefully.

What About a 12-Hour Layover?

This is where I’d seriously consider going into Hiroshima.

With enough time, you could potentially see:

  • Peace Memorial Park
  • Atomic Bomb Dome
  • Hiroshima Castle area
  • Hondori
  • Central Hiroshima

and eat Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki before returning to the airport.

For an overnight connection:

book accommodation.

Can You Visit Miyajima During a Hiroshima Airport Layover?

Potentially—but you need a very long layover.

Miyajima isn’t beside Hiroshima Airport.

You need to travel from the airport toward the Hiroshima/Miyajimaguchi area and then continue to the island.

Don’t try to squeeze Miyajima into a normal five-to-eight-hour airport connection.

For a long stopover or overnight stay, it becomes much more realistic.

What Should You Eat in Hiroshima?

If you go into Hiroshima during a long layover, look for:

Hiroshima-Style Okonomiyaki

The city’s signature dish.

Unlike Osaka-style okonomiyaki, Hiroshima’s version is layered and commonly includes noodles.

Oysters

Hiroshima is one of Japan’s most famous oyster-producing regions.

Anago

Conger eel is particularly associated with the Miyajima area.

Momiji Manju

Maple-leaf-shaped cakes commonly filled with sweet red bean paste or other fillings.

Even Hiroshima Airport itself has plenty of opportunities to try local food and souvenirs.

Hiroshima Airport and Miyajima

Interestingly, direct shared transport options between Hiroshima Airport and the Miyajimaguchi area operate on selected schedules.

But don’t assume these run continuously.

If you’re planning your entire layover around Miyajima, check the current timetable carefully.

What About Onomichi?

Hiroshima Airport is also useful for travellers heading toward Onomichi and the eastern Hiroshima region.

If your Japan itinerary includes:

  • Onomichi
  • Shimanami Kaido
  • Fukuyama

you may not need to travel west into Hiroshima City at all.

Transport options connect the airport with destinations in eastern Hiroshima Prefecture.

This is worth remembering when choosing where to sleep.

Final Thoughts

Hiroshima Airport doesn’t have a capsule hotel or dedicated sleeping pods inside the terminal.

And because the airport currently closes overnight, sleeping on a bench isn’t a realistic backup plan.

Fortunately, Hiroshima Airport Hotel is only around five minutes’ walk away.

For an early flight, that’s the option I’d choose.

If you have more time and actually want to experience Hiroshima, staying around Hiroshima Station or the city centre makes more sense.

Just remember that Hiroshima Airport is much farther from the city than airports such as Fukuoka.

The simple choice is:

Short layover → Stay at Hiroshima Airport

Early flight → Hiroshima Airport Hotel

Long daytime layover → Consider Hiroshima City

Overnight + sightseeing → Stay in Hiroshima

Solo budget → Compare capsule, hostel and business hotels

Couple/family → Conventional hotel

Very long stopover → Hiroshima + potentially Miyajima
